Cathi Edman
I started weaving about 35 years ago as a hobby. Since retiring from education twelve years ago, weaving has become an integral part of my life.
I was inspired and taught by Edna Blackburn of Caledon, who was recognized for lecturing and weaving in Canada and the US. Edna’s goal was to share her love of weaving and have the traditional art of weaving carried on. I take great joy in continuing the art.
I took a course at the Village Weaver in Toronto and with Virginia West from the US. I have been a member of the Kitchener Waterloo Weaver’s and Spinner’s Guild for about 25 years. I taught the process of weaving to young children when I was an educator and developed a program for classes who visited Homer Watson House and Museum in Kitchener. I enjoy working with color and creating a blend of colours that equal the value of the pattern. I weave with a variety of fibres including wool, mohair, cotton, linen and tencel.
Shows I have participated in include The Beaches and Cabbagetown in Toronto, the Huttonville Lions Craft and Antique Show and the KWWSG sales.
